“Everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer…because it teaches you how to think.”
Steve Jobs
In a world that is founded on Technology isn’t it kind of strange that we use it everyday but we really have no idea how it actually works. We use our smartphones and DVRs everyday, we have fancy new gadgets in our cars and social networking but what makes it go? As a teacher, I always struggled with getting my students to “think”. It seemed simple enough…but they didn’t know how to do it. So the question is, how do we get our children to truly think…and the answer is coding.
Coding forces you to think outside of the box. In order to be successful you have to employ logic, sequential thinking and be persistent. Sometimes you have to break something to get it to work properly but in the end you will understand it better. Below is a video that I believe is worth sharing. It’s called “Why Our Kids Must Learn To Code”. If you are interested in getting your child started with coding, check out code.org which is a great resource for beginners.
